“Joe Biden has won the US presidential election, defeating President Donald Trump”.

Many are wondering how the outcome of the US election may effect the Muslim world and in particular the Syrian arena. One thing is for sure, Muslims have in the past number of decades seen much harm from the US, particularly in Afghanistan and Iraq.

A change in the US strategy: Under the Trump administration, a number of changes were made with regards to US policies towards Islamic movements. Will the new President continue with the strategy taken by the previous administration, is still unclear. The changes that were made by the Trump administration may have been for a number of reasons, some of them being:

1. The strong resistance of the Muslims in many wars costing their enemies heavy losses (Trump’s statement in Feb 2020 about the Taliban “They’re great fighters. All you have to do is ask the Soviet Union”).

2. The war in Afghanistan has been “America’s longest war”.

3. The great regret within US politicians with regards to the occupation of Iraq and the fact that Iraq till date is still living in chaos (John McCain on the Iraq war “can’t be judged as anything other then a mistake” as well as Bush’s “biggest regret”).

4. The amount of money these wars have cost the US (according to an article by “Forbes”, until the end of 2019, the war in Afghanistan alone has cost at least $975 billion).

5. The Muslims have out done their enemies in the war of patience and the will to fight.

6. The expansion of China, Russia and Iran.

Keeping these points in mind, we have witnessed over the past year or so the unprecedented agreements which have taken place between the “Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan” well known as the Taliban and the US. The recent revocation of the sanctions on the “Eastern Turkistan Islamic Movement” functioning in a number of countries including Afghanistan and Syria.

With China growing on the world stage at an extraordinary rate, the “war on terror” has distracted the US away from their prime rivals and given the Chinese many opportunities for exploitation. In saying this, the US strategy for the coming years seems it may very well change significantly to concentrate on restricting China’s ability to expand, as well as keeping Russia at hands length, reducing the Chinese influence over the former Soviet super power.

In a report made by Reuters in Washington in 2018, stating the following: “The US military has put countering China and Russia at the head of a new national defence strategy”, also mentioning “the latest sign of shifting American priorities after more then a decade and a half of focusing on the fight against Islamist militants”.

The current situation in the Muslim world: Recently in the Middle East, we have witnessed much harm from so called “Muslim” states, with the UAE being on the top of that list. From funding, fighting and propagating against many Islamic movements around the world, being a spearhead against the Arab Spring, leading operations around the Middle East to extinguish its light, normalization with the occupiers of Palestine (the third holiest area in the world), Israel; UAE have proved themselves to be one of the primary sources of harm to the Muslim world.

Macron described Islam as “a religion that is in crisis all over the world today”

In recent weeks, the world has witnessed an amazing event, which has been absent from our times and ages for decades. With a move in the right direction, the Muslim world has finally been able to unite in defence of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and their religion from aggression, led by Emmanuel Macron, showing many positive outcomes for the general Muslim cause. For centuries the Muslims have witnessed many atrocities by his predecessors who have killed millions of Muslims around the world, particularly in North Africa, stolen Muslim treasures and have fought the religion on all possible spheres of war.

In conclusion: The outcome of the US elections likely will not change much in the Muslim world and if it does, it may be insignificant considering our dire situation or possibly become worse. The reality is that the change of our situation will not happen as a result of an election, nor from within the political circles around the world, as history has proven that change will only occur from within the Muslims themselves.

Allah (SWT) says: “ Verily! Allah will not change the condition of a people unless there is a change of what is in themselves.” {Ar-Rad Verse 11}
